About

You know how going to the funeral of someone you accidentally killed and then brought back to life is, well... unsettling.

Hello Family. Here, in this clearing in the woods, you sense something deeply special, something that calls to your blood and bones, the promise of eternal summer, eternal childhood, eternal joy. It’s a sweet promise and together you agree to answer its call. Here, in this small clearing where the trees circle ’round you like arms and the ground is soft as gran’s quilts and this rabbit-shaped rock holds everything together at its center. Here, in this place you have found and built together, you are safe, you are unseen, you are free. Here, in this place where the wind moves soft through the leaves and the bark bears the marks of your letters and a rabbit kicks up its heels and runs not in fear but in joy, you are best friends and nothing will ever come between you.

Old Gods of Appalachia, a folk horror roleplaying game.

Best Leave Them Ghosts Alone is about a group of childhood friends reunited by the funeral of their old friend Ossie. As children, the group discovered a strange hidden fort in the woods, where they encountered the supernatural being Rabbit Rabbit and made a bargain to bring Ossie back after a mysterious accident. Decades later, Ossie has died again and the old bargain has come due. Drawn back to the ruined fort, the characters encounter Ossie’s ghost and learn that they must fulfill their childhood debt.

  • Game System: Old Gods of Appalachia RPG / Cypher System

  • Experience Level: 🟩 No experience necessary. This is a LEARN-TO-PLAY event and we love teaching!

Old Gods of Appalachia is a horror RPG based on the Podcast of the same name. Using the Cypher System, it tells stories of folk horror, isolated communities, and ancient forces far older than the people in this land. Instead of a traditional monster hunter vibe, this is about the mystery and atmosphere involving the Appalachia region and people. Characters are (mostly) ordinary and the game tackles themes of generational trauma, and lingering consequences from past actions

Meet your Game Master.

Howdy, I'm SP or 'Boggs'. I’ve been playing RPGs for the better part of 10 years. I mainly run Dungeons and Dragons but I have a massive collection of games of all shapes and sizes I like to run. I've had a career based on teaching and I'm most thrilled to teach games. You may have seen or heard me at SeaQuest during education sessions and tours. So, animals are a passion. Ask me anything about animals. I'll have an answer. And feel free to ask me about my favorite penguin!
